85-318i Cold Start Idle Problem - O2 Sensor ? (archive)

Recent problem: when cold (just above blue line or below), car will start, but then not idle and stall. I can rev the engine to 1500 rpm with accelerator until she warms up and then will idle all right. On occassion, when i stop for gas, car wants to stall after starting when warm following fill-up. Seems to start ok on the second try. Car otherwise has plenty of power and gets good mileage (31 highway on 93 octane).
Have replaced all vacuum lines. Test with pulling oil dip stick indicates no leakage. Have checked and cleaned the idle air valve (works right), also getting proper amperage out of the idle control unit to the valve. Have also checked the temp sensor and the temperature switch. Both ok according to Bentley service manual specificationss.
Car has not had new O2 sensor (current miles: 170k). Have scheduled at dealer for replacement. Other ideas ? Cold start injector problem ? Fuel pressure regulator ? Bad gasoline (RFG just introduced to New Engaland)?
Ideas ? Suggestions ?
Thanks for your help,
Wolfgang
