rebuilding an early e30 euro (archive)

hey guys! i'm half way through finishing up my project - 323i been resprayed in daytona violett :)
now i'm considering a different engine vs rebuilding the m20
any recommendation regarding for the new engine - i've seen big six and even a v8 squeezed in e30 engine bay
as i'm aiming at 960kg and 50/50 weight dist
would i b better off (financially) stroking the m20 to 2.7l or getting a bigger engine ? also what engines would bolt to a 260 getrag?
btw - how much the 2.3L L-jet m20 weigh?
