Squealing front brakes (archive)

I have replaced my front pads on my 93 318 and now every time I slow to a stop the front brakes squeal loudly. Have BMW changed the pad material as I did not experience this problem before? Please I need a quick answer as I am off touring the continent this week and have many passes to climb!
