Verify that the engine is running hot in the first place. My 325iS, 320i and my brother's 2002 Tii all appeared to run hot. Tap on the gauge itself as it begins to get "Hot" and if the neddle goes back to normal, then the problem is electrical. If not, then ba sure that the radiator cap is sealing properly. That was the issue in my 325eS.
