: Someone stole my master key, and I also have the all too common driver's door lock problem, where if you lock the car on the driver's door, you have a very hard time unlocking it again. So I am currently in the process of deciding whether to buy just the one new lock, with a new key, and then re-key the entire car to match the new key, or else buy a complete lock set, including all 3 locks (both doors and trunk), plus ignition, plus a full key set. www.bimmerparts.com sells the set for $238, and www.irontoad.com has it for $217. (The dealer wanted $298.) This is P/N 51.21.1.904.727.

: Like you, I have been using the trunk to open/lock the car for months, but now that I need a new key anyway, I'm going to do it right.

: I'm wondering what is involved in installing new locks all the way around: do I need any special tools? Can I do it myself? How long will it take? The dealer wanted about $2,900 for the labor, which I thought was pretty darn high.

: : lock module, lock motors and rewired the lead from the drivers door the the module, my system now works. The cylinder in the drivers door in mine needs to be replaced, but I am not going to spend 160.00, that is with the BMW dealer discounting it to thier cost. I use the truck to lock/unlock all doors and this works for me.

I believe if you go to a BMW dealer and give them your vin #, you can get a complete set of keys, including the master, for around $50. From what I have heard, you can only do this a few times over the life of the car... I guess they keep track.
