The odometer drive gears in the odometer part of the speedo are worn\broken. Cost around $100 to get fixed or find an old speedo to cannibalize.

My 85 318i did the EXACT same thing.

I have the exact problem. I can't find a good - old speedo, so where can they be fix for a $100.00.
