E-30? 83 320 For $500 (archive)

Hey my fellow BMW dudes. I have an E-36, which is about to turn 6 figures at 99.6 kmiles. Man, I love this car. Anyway, why I am here is because down the street a guy has a cardboard sign on an 83 320i. The body is very straight. The interior is thrashed. It has 230,000 miles. It drives OK, except it doesn't want to go into 2 or 4th gear. Got to really pull on the lever to lock it in. Well, the motor sounds OK for having a quarter million miles, and I think the guy will take $500. He said if he did not sell it by tomorrow, he was gonna wreck it and make the insurance company buy it. I'm looking for advice from you guys, since I don't know squat about anything non-E36. I would like to buy this as a project car. I like that it's a fuel injected motor. I like that it is a BMW. But like I say, I don't know much about the E30 series. The paint is pretty good, too, btw. It's an orange one. I drove it and the motor sounds fair, but it idles kind of high. Mushy brakes. Big deal. I can smell a little oil, but no blue smoke. Thanks in advance.
