Don't be too sure you are not leaking oil. I had the same problem and was thinking the same as you. One day while running on a dyno I noticed a pool of oil forming on the right side. It turned out to be the o-ring that seals the oil thermostat. Another possibility is the oil pressure sender. These parts can leak a drop at a time and is blow away while you drive, leaving no evidence. By the way, oil smoke is white.
