Its the OIL SENDING UNIT. A small one-wire affair that is located right below your oil filter. Excessive engine heat nearly melts the plastic contact body, while its attached to your engine block. Until Bosch makes an insulated metallized ONE - youe will continue to purchase them every 50,000-120,000 miles.

My 325 has settled on a steady diet of 1 liter motor oil per 2000 miles. It is not leaking, so it must be burning it. Any ideas why? It produces little or no black smoke BTW.
