It might be an e21. The e30's went from 1984-1991 (93 fro the cabrio). Also there never was a US version of the e30 badged a 320i.
Here's a sure fire way to tell. Check the front. Are the turn signals on the bumper of the grill? If there on the bumper it's an e30, if there on the grill its an e21.
Another sure fire way to tell...on the inside is the radio mounted low and at slant? If so it's an e21
Yet another way to tell...does the spedo only go up to 80 mph? If so its an e21
If the car is indeed an e30...go for it. If the car is an e21 don't do it! The e21's are fine cars but the e30 is heads and shoulders above it. There are also very few performance accessories for the e21 where there are tons for the e30's.
So how do I know so much about the e21? My family owned one for 17 years.
e30s in european markets began in 1983-on
e30s in U.S market 1984-on
The euro version will have headrests for the back seats, chrome euro bumpers etc. $500 is a good deal if it is a real euro model shipped to the states. You should also check to make sure that it has the dot and epa papers.
Checked out a "323i" before.. found out that it was a fake..guy dressed up a 318..tried to pass it as euro..
Anyway Good Luck
