Only 80K? If you are only going by the mileage to do your maintenance that might be the problem. Do you change coolant every year regardless of mileage? You should do the oil 2 times a year too to keep acids from building up even if you don't drive it. It could be your thermostat or if you use prestone or somother phosphate rich antifreeze. This causes a buildup over time which make your cooling system very inefficient. I change my coolant every 2 years regardless of mileage. I have 201K miles on my '84 325e I am only on my second waterpump and timing belt (very soon to be repaced). I have never had an overheating problem though.
