1984 318i automatic needs new trans. The car is my brothers and is in bad shape so we don't know if it's even worth fixing. What's the cheapest way to replace it? rebuilt is ok. We are in Chicago area. Thanks for any help.

If it is in real bad shape i doubt it is worth it. Even if you can find a cheap tranny you will have to pay through the nose for the labor.
