1. Could I be running out of spark. Could the ignition be loosing energy at that RPM with the spark fading simulating a rich condition?
2. I have the stock intake, could it be so restrictive as to bring on this condition?
3. This is a high mileage motor, could it be blow by? Plugs look nearly perfect (clean electrode, insulator and ground, dark ring around the base no hint of oil fouling) and oil consumption is normal, about 1 quart between changes so . . . I don't think that is oil smoke. You can see the residue on my bumper.
4. On another post I listed problems with the car stalling when I hit a bump. I suspect a bad ground, others suspect bad relays and timing sensors. This could also be a factor too. I will check those out next week and keep you guys informed.
5. This was in first gear. The tach could be a little slow. Maybe I actually was at 5300 RPM and the limiter kicked in. Doesn't explain the smoke and sooty tail pipe though.
Any thoughts?
Sounds like a sensor problem. Could be either the air flow metter, the temp meter, or the O2 sensor, anyone one of them could be confusing the computer and causing a bad mixture. I'd spend the bucks to take it to a dealer and let them check the sensors out.
