I once read on this board that someone used to carry a spare digital engine control unit (motronic) in their glovebox. I wonder if he could just plug it in (sounded like it)? Hum. Good luck.

my 1990 325i wasnt starting so i took it to my mechanic and he told me it is the module in the distributer. according to him the part cannot just be replaced. the computer must then be reprogrammed as well. this all came from the shop manual for the 325i. and only an authorized bmw mechanic or dealership mechanic can do the reprogamming. i was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with their module and if it really needs to be reprogammed at a dealer or can my mechanic just drop the new part in. Thanks
