minor correction: 325 has 172 ft-lbs of torque, not only 135 as previous message states. That's the bonus--big torque, even if the hp isn't that much.

I have an 87. Bought it for $4300 3 yrs ago w/ 130k and have had to put a steady $1000/ yr into it in maintenance.

It's a great car, but still costs a bundle to maintain, even with the previous owner babying it. Check for timing belt (replace every 50k), check susp., when the last inspection II (major tune-up) was done. Have a real BMW shop look at it. If they're in good shape, they can still fetch $3500 or a bit more.
