How the hell do you remove the recessed nut at the top of the strut shaft that is recessed into the strut bearing but requires a backup to keep the shaft from turning. The nut requires a 19mm socket. With the socket in place there is no way to get the back up 8mm socket on the shaft. So much for german engineering.


Don't insult the German engineering. Instead,
get the special cutaway socket made specifically
for removing this recessed strut nut. An alternate
method is to use an air impact or even an electric
impact gun to spin the nut off and re-install it
later. I use a $29 air impact and it works great.
The special socket is hard to find and costs
around $20. It enables you to hold the smaller
hex at the end of the shaft with another socket
while turning the large 19mm nut.
