After a lot of testing this and that, and several trips to the BMW dealer, finally replaced the idle speed relay (PN: 13-41-1-708-511), a $200 part. That cured the nasty lurching problem. Still having some hunting at idle. Car will hunt between 1100 and 750 rps when warm. Upon initial start up, it holds on to 750 just fine. If i turn on the ac when it is hunting, it brings the idle down to 750, ac off and it goes back up to about 1000 and holds there. Some sensor input from the ac not shutting off ? Idle switch hanging up ? Suggestions ? Will also consult with dealer again.
Small plug for them: Wagner BMW in West Springfield MA. They do a very good job and have treated me well there. Their parts folks are extreemely helpful and prompt with getting me whatever i ask for.
Wolfgang :)
