I agree with Randall :)

I have the i cam/i springs in my 86e. No custom chip yet, but you have to factor a few more things in to compare the two.

1.Even with a custom chip that will allow you to rev to 6800, the car (the ETA) does NOT want to rev that high. Whereas the 325i motors LOVE to rev (ask Eniac about his rev limiter). It's REAL hard to make an ETA motor a rev monster. So, if anyone is thinking about the conversion, don't get your hopes up there.

2.Will my car smoke an i now? Nope! Ya know why? First, the rear end ... you'll NEED the 3.25 at least. Then, m a y b e I could keep the 325i from pulling away from me completely, but it'll be faster, no doubt :(

Rusty, go just a couple hundred further then that cam/spring conversion, and yes, you will beat 325i's. I can't yet, I guarantee it. But give me some time (or give me some money), and I have a good feeling I can.

But, to look at things optimistically, if you drive in first gear after the conversion all the time, you'll swear you can beat anyone! It's great. Not even gonna try to explain it. :)

P.S. Make sure you drill the oil holes for the conversion right :( It only takes one day of driving to char your cylinder head, and that sucks if you just spent a grand on it :(
