It may slightly affect idle speed but it is for idle stabilization. Try this experiment, it won't hurt your car, but it will illustrate what I am talking about. Pull the electrical connector off the idle stabilization valve with the car running. It will sound like you are on the starting grid in an F1 race. The idle will rise and fall between about 500 and 1500 rpm. Plug it back in and it will instantly settle down. Turning the screw can adjust the idle speed just a little, but it's main function is to stabalize the idle. If you turn the screw between its limits you will not see a big change in RPM, stabilization will change more. Use the electronic method in my last post to set the valve properly. To do this you will need to pull one leg off the valve and complete the circuit with a current meter. At idle, adjust the screw so the current draw is correct and you are done.
Have a great weekend!!!

Thanks. What do you mean by stabilization? I thought my haynes manual metioned that the screw was to increase or decrease the mA reading which would also effect idle.

I am borrowing a voltmeter to check it any way.
