My 318i has the battery up front. The difference is it being a six cylider. Up front on fours and in the rear for sixes. I don't know why. I would move it up front as well or run one up front and one in the rear with an isolator if you are an audiophile that is only content when the bass is loud enough to make your vision vibrate to a blur. My brothers car does this and how he hasn't wrecked yet I don't know. His girlfriend loves it for some reason :)

I have a question concerning battery placement in E30's. In Germany, my '84 318 had the battery in the engine compartment. Now, in the US, my '86 325 has the battery in the trunk. But there is a place for it in the engine compartment (makes a handy tool tray when working on the engine..). Is this just a German versus US specification or what?? Anyone know??
