I've got good compression across all four cylinders but have 200k on the motor and the seals and gaskets need to be replaced. I'm pulling the motor next tax season and putting on lower and upper gasket kits, new hoses and cleaning off the oil reserves that are currently stockpiled all over everything. Head is going to the shop but I dont want to mess with the lower too much.
I'm rambling again so I get to the question. Has any one every just changed the piston rings and honed? Or bored out a bit and used the same pistons. Are Deves the best rings? How far over can you go before new pistons are required? I don't expect any scoring since this has been a fairly well maintained car. But my strengths are more electrical than mechanical. And if there is scoring or something it would go straight to the machine shop.
Just trying to expand my options. I try not to race it to often so that isn't a big consideration. Looking for reliability (no fourbanger jokes please. You sixbangers far outweigh us four bangers in problems posted on this board.)Oh what the hell I always get a kick out of them!
Thanks

Jeff
