Note: This is a very long post but it is definitely worth reading. I think I have done a good job of containing my excitement and keeping a conservative view of the product. I think it is very important that we get to the bottom of this since this could be a great product...
Last night, I stumbled onto http://www.roarinc.com/
This company sells intakes, a hypercharger, and superconductor plugs. I urge everyone to go to this website and check it out.
Here's the information as I interpreted it:
The hypercharger they sell is $249 for every car. In order to fit the hypercharger, you must already have or also order the roar intake for your car (for 325 e30 owners it's $199). The hypercharger is a motor with an air duct that attaches to the intake. The duct is connected to a cool air source (for most cars the lower front valance was used). Supposedly the horsepower gains are anywhere from 15-40.
Here's the confusing part. Roar Dynoed an e36 m3. Stock, the M3 dynoed 200 hp and 200 torque . With a K&N intake the M3 dynoed 202 torque and 205 hp. With Roar (Intake only? Or intake and hypercharger?) The M3 dynoed 222 torque and 216 horsepower. That's a 16 horsepower increase over stock and a 11 horsepower increase over the K&N.
However...the test does not clearly state if the roar intake was used or the roar hyprcharger was used.
But damn, for $450 this sounds like a pretty good deal! A nice compromise between a regular intake and a supercharger.
Some things that concern me:
The shady description of the roar product used on the dyno.
The fact that the air duct would probably have to be fitted to the lower valance on e30's. (The cons of this have been discussed in great detail.)
The low price.
The fact that e36 m3 engines are known to be easy to get more horsepower out of. Just look at what a triflo exhaust does for an e36 m3...it adds 22 horsepower! We would be lucky to get a 5 hp gain out of a tri flo!
But seriously guys we should all check this out. I'm really considering getting one of these. You figure a chip (15 hp), Roar intake (10-15 hp), and exhaust (0-5 hp) and I'm up to 200 hp at the flywheel, which has been my goal for along time.
BTW: Has anyone ever dynoed a stock e30 325i? The result?
M325ix: You said your car was dynoed at 203 horsepower...No offense but how could you get up to an e36 M3 amount of horsepower with a chip, intake, exhaust, valve job, and polished head? Do valve jobs and polished heads really add that much?
