My 318i has the battery up front. The difference is it being a six cylider. Up front on fours and in the rear for sixes. I don't know why. I would move it up front as well or run one up front and one in the rear with an isolator if you are an audiophile that is only content when the bass is loud enough to make your vision vibrate to a blur. My brothers car does this and how he hasn't wrecked yet I don't know. His girlfriend loves it for some reason :)

I have 2 325ic's both of them have the batteries up front. It doesn't have anything to do with the amount of cylinders. I believe if anything it's weight distribution.
