So you think the surging might also be caused by a problem with the idle control valve?
87 325e On cold start will consistently start and idle fine. Every start afterward, until it sits for about 4 hours or more, requires giving it some gas just to make it start then woking the gas to keep it running just for a few seconds then it will idle fine. Also there is a noticable surging( up and down) when accelerating, not a detectable miss but a gradual surging mostly noticable while going through the gears. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
This might be condensation building up in your intake manifold that causes the hard start. The surge might be a vacuum leak somewhere or a dirty/ bad idle control valve located on the rubber bellow between the air box and the throttle body.
