Is it possible to have driving pleasure/performance with an auto transmission on a 1987 325is? I have been driving stick shift (911 - 5 speed) for 25 years, but am considering adding a used 325is with auto (sob!) Please give me your pros and cons.

I have 2 E-30's, one of each kind of transmission. The 5 speed is much faster, and way more fun to drive in wide open traffic. BUT...the automatic is SO much more relaxing in city traffic and that stop and go crap on the freeway during rush-hour. Each one has draw backs and plus's, I think it depends on your prevailing driving conditions which one is better.
