318i won't start..please help (archive)

Having problems starting my 1985 318i. It is a replacement engine. At one time it would start without the AFM but, not with it installed. I have since fixed some air leaks and have actually started it with the AFM installed. It ran for about 10 seconds before it shut of. We have checked that there is a spark through the wires and that the coil is functioning. We have also tested the cold start valve as well as the ICU. I have replaced the the cap and rotor and the fuel pump relay. Everything that I have checked seems to check out fine.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem? If so, what other things can I look for? Is there anything I missed? Any help would be great. Thanks.
