Once I get the control arms off - okay, if I get the control arms off, I understand it is best to take it to a shop and have them remove the old bushings. True?
I am replacing the rotors, control arms and wheel bearings - if all goes well.
Thanks!
I recently did this on the driver's side. I reached the middle nut with a 22 (I think) mm box wrench from underneath. Once you break it loose you may need to put a little pressure on the ball joint with a jack to keep it from spinning. I could not fit a socket on it due to a flange or somthing. Also, I used a ball joint separator to get the middle one out and a tie rod separator to get the outer ball joint loose after getting the nuts off. You can pick those up at any auto parts store and they work well with a three or four pound mallet.
For old bushing, I cut off the outer ring and then pounded off the inner, not elegant but it worked. Then I did use a hydraulic press at a garage to put new bushing in bracket and then the bracket on the arm which made the job much easier. Have fun.
