e30's are great cars, there's very little out there these days that rivals the fun you get from tossing one of these little things around.
Now, you said you had about 4k to spend, and wanted a 91, let me toss this out here. Get about 5k on the table, and look at an 87-91 325i or is.
Don't bother with the the 318i's and the 325e's, you'll read plenty on this board about 325e's and the "i" conversion, all that jazz. Don't bother. It's pricey, it's work, and this is a daily driver, so that isn't practical. Start with a car that has power to begin with ,start with the "i" motor. For about 5k, you can find a nice 87 or 88, or maybe a higher mileage 89, all great cars, with the '89 being the best of them. The 1989 model gets you the smaller bumpers, elipsiloid headlamps, and no airbag, so this is definetly the most desirable car. For the 90's and 91's, you get a first generation US-spec airbag, that alone would scare me from driving one of these.
The 325i or is would make you the happiest, it has all the power of your GSR, with a lot more torque, and it actually powers the right wheels

'89 325is (gee, I'm biased)
I currently own a 1995 Acura Integra GSR. I am in school right now, so my expenses from that, on top of my insurance hike due to a suspension because of too much speeding has forced me to sell my beloved GSR and opt for a older, cheaper car. I thought about a Toyota MR2, but i really want a 2 door coupe. A 91 318is caught my eye. I would appreciate any comments on this model, as i know nothing about Bimmers except a got smoked by a M3 once. I need a nice, reliable car. Any comments or recomendations on 318s, what to look out for when buying one, etc. will be greatly appriciated!
