Motronic is the name given to one of Bosch's engine management systems found in mid to late 80's BMW's and Porsches, among other cars. It basically consists of a small computer processor or "ECU" fed by a series of engine sensors that in turn controls air/fuel mixture, ignition system, and emissions for optimum engine efficiency. It can be modified to a certain degree (a reprogrammed EPROM chip) to increase power. It can also be reprogrammed to better manage a modified engine.
