Check control problem, Please Help! (archive)

Hi,
can anyone help with the following.....
i recently purchased a 1983 E30 320i and it is fitted
with the check control system, everything is ok apart
from the one LED (dipped beam)lights up along with the check symbol on cluster flashing when the lights are switched on but not with sidelights, so i checked the wiring
to front/rear lights and cleaned a few connections, and
still the same, so next i replaced the check control relay
unit in trunk, and still no improvement, is there anything else that could cause this problem? or have i overlooked something simple?
any advice appreciated, this is problem is driving me mad
(flashing lights on cluster very distracting at night)
