OK...The e21 and the e30 are very, very, very different.

Here are a few facts (refer to US cars)

E21 (1977-1983) Only availible model 320i coupe

e30 (1984-1991 (convertible 87-93) Availible models: 318i, 318ic, 325e, 325es, 325, 325i, 325is, 325ix, 325ic.

All e30's have turn signals intergrated on the bumper.

All e31's have turn signals intergrated in the grill just next to the headlights.

e30's are more square shaped.

e30's handel better

e30's are much quicker

e30's have a more modern interior

There are a ton of other differences. The bottom line...e30's rule e21's.
