Problem with fresh air blower (archive)

1987 325e: Fresh air blower works great on 4, but 1-3 setting will only work for a second or two (or not at all). Bentley manual indicates this is usually the blower motor series resistors located underneath the blower motor. I found it but I need to know if I need to replace the entire blower or does the resistor come separate for replacement? Has anyone else had this problem?
