you need to buy a light from your dealer. I have also heard that you can buy just replacement bulbs and solder them on the strip yourself. To get to the computer your need to take off your glovebox and the molding around the centre councles.

My on-board computer (92 e30) works fine, but does not illuminate. Does anyone know what is involved in fixing this? Is there a bulb for this, or does the entire unit need to be replaced?
