what is this thing? (archive)

doing some work on an 87 325. had to take out the glove compartment. noticed a two prong electrical receptical (about 1X2 inches) attached to the left side. looks likd some kind of relay goes in there. have no idea what goes in there and its purpose. anybody out there know what it is for?
