Hey, I have an 86 325es that only idles at 600 when cold. What should an ETA idle at. It idles at 750 when warm. The idle also bounces when cold. thanks,

I think it should be around 750 rpm. I have the same condition as you describe. 600 cold / 750 warm. My car only idled down to 600 cold after I noticed that the zero degree (celsius) switch was disconnected and the wires shorted together with a 10 amp fuse. The temperture switch is located on the passenger side firewall and can be seen under the hood near where the main wire harness exits the car. It's hex shape with two electrical connections. Plugging this switch in smooth out my idle overall but created this low cold idle problem. The BMW dealer help me identify the zero switch and told me it does effect idling but I'd like to know more about the switch. For example, which circuit is the switch in and how can I test the switch more throughly ? I hope to find more info in the Bently book I have on the Christmas list however if anyone has any info please reply.
