The factory switched to the black plastic locking stips for the front and rear windshields in 89 production vehicles.

Black window trim is available from the factory as well. This was std. to the 91 318is but it is very expensive. Consider the time/expense of having the replacement trim's trailing edge painted too.

You can remove your car's window trim and have it anondized for far cheaper. Finding a quality shop in your area will take time/effort but you'll save $'s. you'll likely get a better anondizing job too.
