I am looking at a 1989 325i with very noisy valve noise. What else could this indicate besides just needing adjustment? Valve job? Bearing wear?

I'm not familiar with the '89, but you still have dual overhead cams, no? So each rocker arm is riding on a lobe of a cam? And each end has an eccentric roller that can wear and a big spring on the other? There are lots of little parts in those heads.
