The typical way of troubleshooting power drains is to turn the car off and place a current meter b/w the + battery terminal (remove the cable from terminal) and the cable. if you see current flow, which you prolly will, you need to have an assistant remove fuses until you see the drain stop. You'll know then that the leak is on that circuit. Get a Bentley's manual to figure out the stuff on that circuit.

I'm not familiar w/ the 318i, but here's an article which claims to be pertinent only to pre-85 318s. It's worth investigating.
