the 89 and newer 325is automatics also had 4.10 LS diffs.

'91 318is & E30 M3 came with 4.10. 325i/is came with 3.73.

4.10 is too high for the street! My 318 came with a 3.62 from the factory. It now has a 4.27 for racing but get it on the highway and those revs will drive you nuts! 3.73 or 3.91 is probably best.

any diff off of an e30 or an e28 will fit, but you may need to switch the rear plate (use the one off of your existing diff) You'll probably want a 4.10, I think that's what all 318's have.

I recently bought a 91 318is and one of the first things I noticed is the need for a LS diff. My 87 535is has one and I love it. Anyhow, what diffs fit? Only ones from 4 cyl 3 series? Or do ones from 325's fit? Also, I'm not sure of the ratio of my stock 318is, so what's the best for street use?
Thanks,
John
