Valve job??? (archive)

I was wondering how to know if I need a valve job. I posted about a broken head bolt with my desire of removing the bolt shaft and replacing with a new bolt. A couple of people thought that the head will be warped around the broken bolt so they suggested that I have the head taken off and do a full valve job. Big $$. How do I know if I need a valve job. My 88 325ic engine doesn't make any strange sounds and purs like new. Is there a catastrophe waiting to happen if I just replace the screw without a valve job?
