Your'e a fucking idiot! The whole point of Des's post was to point out that driving schools teach useful skills in learning how to handle your car, because any jerk off can stab the right pedal and go like hell in a strait line. The fact that his puny 4 cylinder has the "s" in the badge had nothing to do with his claims to being the next Hans Stuck! And the fact that you boast about your involvment in a fraternity only makes you sadder, you don't have the personality to make friends so you have your mommy and daddy pay for them. Schmuck.
Furthermore, the brotherhood is not dead! I am very active in the BMW CCA autocrosses, as well as SCCA. I knew no one when I moved here, to NYC, and have made many new friends through the club, and gotten some really great prices on pretty nice performance parts. The brotherhood is far from dead, go to any BMW gathering and you will find just as many people who wrench thier own cars as you do people who bought it for it's status. And, in the case of E30 owners, what status is there in owning a 10+ year old compact car?? I have to beleive that E30 owners are people who either A) beleive in economical and dependable transportation that is fun to drive, or B) recognize that a properly tuned E30 is a force to be reconed with when competing for either fun or trophy. You should'nt be so quick to jump in someones shit, especially if you have the reading comprehension of a 4th grader!
Des, thank you for ushering your son into our "clan"! I hope he enjoys years of fun from your 318...I wish my dad would have hooked me up with a Bimmer for a first car, instead of the Buick LeSabre I sported in my high school years!
Many twisty roads,
Chris R. 87 325iS

You, simply put, are an ass. I wouldn't make such claims shooting down the handling of other cars just because your car has another letter on the badge. It seems that you are posting this out of jealousy for those with two more cylinders in their E30.
What really bothers me about your post is your attitude towards college students. I am a college student, and I enjoy owning and driving my BMW. That's right, I enjoy driving it. That's what BMW is about, not mindless arguments over whose looks better, whose handles better, and who has the fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile time. That is what rice is about. As for brotherhood, that died when BMW became a status symbol. The only brotherhood that I belong to has greek letters.
By the way, I do consider myself fortunate to own a BMW, but what brings me the most pride is that it wasn't a hand-me-down from my parents. I paid for 100% of mine. Teach your son that lesson.
It's people like you that ruin the image of BMW. People who care more about what badge is on the back than the time in a driver's seat. I bought mine because I like to drive, not because I'm some middle aged wannabe who think's that (s)he has "made it" because they own a BMW, and just uses it to drop off the kids at school or soccer practice.

Oh by the way, try going to college, it might help your writing ability.

I own a 91 318is and for all intentive purposes i think its great. I know you 325 guys think that getting out past a 318 on a stop light is cool, but I'm sure if you had to make turns at 90 mph you'd all be dead. My suggestion is to go to a driving school like I did, that will humble you very much. Most of you sound like college kids anyway, did you ever stop to think how fortunate you are to even own a bimmer...you've all killed what BMW is about. It's not only a brotherhood but a reliability and love for every bimmer out there. Now I'd also like to mention that I'm upgrading to a 540i 6 and will have to do a bit of bragging of my own. However, my kid is getting the 318 and he is the happiest person in the world. Grow up
