Turbo and SDS troubles (archive)

Posted by Richard on January 06, 2001 at 20:26:07:

I purchased a 1989 325i with the following modifications:
-CNC machined pistons, comp. ratio of 7.8:1
-KKK K-26 oil cooled turbo charger
-DeltGateII waste gate
-Greddy intercooler
-Sard blow off valve
-Race Tech SDS engine management system
I guess my biggest problem is I do not fully understand how the engine managment system and the wastegate work together. The SDS system is programed to cut the fuel if the manifold pressure rises above 10 psi and I am finding it cutting out under full throttle, but only in the top three gears. No problems in 1st & 2nd. My question is if the wastegate is set to releive pressure at 9 psi how can the manifold pressure exceed 10psi and trigger the SDS system to cut the fuel??? and why only in the top three gears. This is my first Bimmer and I love the car but I may be in over my head! I would appreciate any feed back, there does not seem to be anyone near that knows much about turbo's and the SDS system so I need help. Thanks. Richard.
