Just wondering because the first numeral "1" in the VIN would indicate that it's an automatic. A "2" would indicate 5 speed fully syncronized etc. etc.

I looked my VIN up in a import guide and discovered that my # was wrong as my car is 5 speed. I have a feeling that it was a misprint but I don't know. Here's a sample VIN to describe my piont:
W= BMW-AG munich, west germany
B= BMW
A= Passenger
A= 3 series
A= 325is
1= automatic...(a "2" would indicate 5 speed)
3= 210 CID 6cyl
0= manual seat belts
X= check digit
J= model year 1988
8= plant, Regensburg

Somebody correct me if this info is untrue.

Thanks,

Aaron.
Next 6 digits are sequential serial numbers.
Fellow enthusiasts.. Need a favor. Saw this 88 "is" on Autotrader.. I might consider pending the carfax.

Should be in TX.

The price sounds too good to be true. Please help... Richie..
