The name escapes me but it has a brief mention in one of the newsletters at the site referenced in the response below.

The transmission and differentials are generally robust. It's the transfer case that is the weak link. Religious fluid changes (ATF) protect the average driver.

I drove an iX for a few years. The car would be even more fun with 195+ hp. I never knew how much torque the transfer case could take though. So, i didn't make any modifications.
