Left tail light isn't burnt out but won't work!!! (archive)

Its not the brake light but just the rear light on the left side. At first it would go out and I would tap it and it would go back on again. but one day I went to tap it and it didn't work. I tried a new bulb and that didn't work either. the signal and brake light work in the housing and there's no rust or anything like that on it either. I have fiddled with the housing for ever and I can't figure out whats wrong. I can't see anywhere where there is no metal to metal contact. HELP. THANX in advance everyone
