Super Eta ID: How? (archive)

Is there any positive way (like serial number)to tell if an eta engine in an '87 or '88 325 or 528e is a supereta? I am aware of the differences between the super eta and the earlier eta, but I'd like to know how to positively tell them apart without removing the valve cover. Any help would be much appreciated.
