As it seems common, I recieved only the basic master key when I bought my 'new to me' '87 325iC.

Does anyone know what the differences are in the master key and the valet key, i.e. one tumbler not cut, shorter key, so that I can have my local locksmith cut a valet key from my master? I shudder at having to pay an exhorbitant fee to the dealer for this.

Thanks!

Sorry...the valet key uses a different BLANK,with a shallower cut in it,but the same key cut as the master.Very few locksmiths will carry this blank,as it's rarely asked for. You're probably stuck with the dealer except in a few larger urban areas.
