The older (P bus) changers work with the older radios. IMHO they are better... especially the Pioneer units. The I bus units are the newer ones that will only work with the newer radios. Beware that even if you get the correct bus type for your stereo, that some radios require the Alpine and others require the Pioneer. The older Pioneer cartridges are inexpensive and easy to come by - Circuit City, Best Buy...The older Pioneer models are compatible with other Pioneer head units that have an "M" in their model number - I have the factory Pioneer setup in my Cabrio as well as Pioneer in my Benz and throughout my house. Nice to use the same cartridges. Almost skip-proof and fast disc changes. One of my changers I've had for 5 years and never needed service except for head cleaning...
