you are correct. although the lowered springs/shocks contribute to the stiffer ride - 17" rims are way too big (for my tastes) for an E30 and will definitely give you a "rock hard" feel... if you buy it go down to 15, 16 tops... with a little more rubber between the rims and ground your ride will feel much better...

I ride 15" w/205/50/15 tires and it is tight but not "rock hard".
