I have a 325IS too, but here's what I know. If it's the diff then most likely you'll here a difference (worsening) during corners. Wheels bearing can do that too sometimes, so it might be hard to pinpoint. Sometimes when bearings go bad you can feel play in the wheel by jacking the car up and wiggling the top, side, or bottom of the wheel in and out. There should not be any play at all. Another common source of rumbling noise is broken tire belts. You can tell if they're broken by running your hand along the tread surface and if there's any bumps or warping then your belts are broke. The center bearing on the driveshaft can also howl when it goes bad. Try taking out the rear seat and driving, it makes the sounds much louder and maybe will pinpoint it more. Unless you can pinpoint something else I would check for broken belts, then replace the bearings.I have a similar low roar from the rear. It does sound like a wheel bearing but could we get more specific information on the most likely source and fix.
Hi,
I just purchase a Canadian 325is today for $3800.00 with 200,000 km on the oddometer. The car is in OK shape for the age. I've own a 325is & 325i for the past 5 years only to be sold for a new 328i (2000). But I have always missed my 325is, different driving spirit compare to my 328i (2000). I have some roaring hum coming from the back I'm suspecting the differential, wheel bearing or muffler. Does any body have this kind of problem? If it is the differential, where can I get a use one and possibly how much?
Thanks,
Romulo
